Method Development for Detection of β – Cyclodextrin Encapsulated Ethyl Vanillin on Coated Paper
Project Description:
PT Bukit Muria Jaya (BMJ) would like to produce vanillin coated paper. Vanillin could reduce the unwanted smell coming from the burning of tobacco. The vanillin currently used is supplied by a third party in an encapsulated form, that is β – cyclodextrin encapsulated vanillin (βCD-V). The method of coating applied could be online coating or offline coating. Online coating involves introduction of βCD-V solution during production of paper followed by drying, while offline coating involves introduction of βCD -V to the paper followed by drying. In both methods, BMJ detected heavy vanillin smell during the production. Therefore, it is speculated that Vanillin evaporated during the production. One of the consequences is that the content of βCD-V actually loaded on paper becomes unknown. It is of the interest of PT BMJ to be able to determine the content of βCD-V to issue certificate of analysis to their customer and to determine the correct concentration to achieve 1% V concentration on the paper.
